Abstract

Nowadays when facing the increasing energy demand many people attempt to generate more energy with alternative approaches Nevertheless energy conservation is a more feasible solution In a modern demand-supply model for electricity usage consumers cane be regarded as a virtual power plant With appropriate energy conservation approaches the energy crisis can be avoided and the expense can be significantly reduced for electricity consumers At present the information of numerous energy-consuming devices information is distributed and thus cannot be effectively managed Once the device information and electricity consumption data can be integrated into a platform it is believed that the energy efficiency can be greatly raised by actively reducing redundant power consumption In this work we design and implement a low-cost gateway that can be deployed in a large scale for energy management purposes This gateway collects data from devices and controls these devices Moreover usage data can be pushed to a cloud platform immediately by this gateway Then consumers can easily get their consumption report remotely manage their devices and understand their energy usage patterns
