This paper examines whether female directors in the boardroom have influences on corporate financial decisions and corporate performance I find that female directors in the boardroom are negatively related to leverage which is one of the corporate financial decisions examined in this work However I find that two other decisions asset growth and debt issuance are not related to female directors Further I find that female directors in the boardroom have positive influences on Tobin's Q My results suggest that female directors can help to improve corporate performance possibly because they are more likely to be diligent and less overconfident in nature than male directors
