Abstract

There are many factors that affect creativity and using good design methods is one of them. Brainstorming is widely used as a design method to enhance group creativity, but as technology advances, people are beginning to see the drawbacks of brainstorming and new forms of brainstorming are emerging, such as electronic brainstorming. Personality traits also affect creativity. According to the literature, of the five personality traits, openness to expirience, extroversion, and agreeableness are the most relevant to creativity. Therefore, this experiment will investigate whether the personality traits related to creativity affect the feeling of the meeting process, the satisfaction of the outcome, and the quality of the ideas under the anonymous and identified electronic brainstorming environment. This research experiment utilizes the online collaborative platform miro (miro.com) as an atmosphere for anonymous and identified in an electronic brainstorming environment. 64 subjects, aged between 19 and 27 years, were recruited and randomized into groups.
The results showed that, regardless of personality traits, the anonymous electronic brainstorming environment produced higher levels of enjoyment than the identified electronic brainstorming environment. Regardless of the electronic brainstorming environment, personality traits could only affect satisfaction of outcome. What is important is the participant's perception of instrumentality to the process as well as the perception of enjoyment, and if both satisfaction of outcome and quality of idea are to be taken into account, the part of the brainstorming session that should be focused on is not only enhancing the participants' enjoyment of the session and guiding the participants to be more productive to the process but also paying attention to whether the ideas are off-topic and providing assistance in a timely manner.
