Risk management is one of the most important aspects that affects construction projects Lack of attention in this aspect could end in the increment of the high rate of deaths in the activities performing of the construction industry In order to deal with this aspect hazards identification is of critical importance since it will determine the specific measures that must be taken to ensure a safety environment In recent years with the inclusion of Building Information Modeling technology in the construction industry this activity is being changing Despite there have been a lot of studies regarding safety management for hazards identification with BIM and virtual simulations most of them are focused on risks of the project structure itself without considering construction processes site logistics and stakeholders experience This is of special importance for general contractors which are responsible of the construction of the project This research proposes a framework to implement a system for hazards identification in construction processes which integrates traditional safety programs and technological approaches through BIM and virtual simulations In addition it presents processes to implement a construction-simulation oriented model to perform animations and simulate the construction processes which will help to identify hazards Results shows a transformed BIM model into a construction-simulation oriented model and important information of hazards identified through this technological approach in addition of the traditional methods
