This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the “Movie Script Composition Learning” (hereafter MSCL) on the fifth grader’s creativity (fluency flexibility originality elaboration) and composition ability The MSCL systematically integrates a range of creativity theories and storytelling skills then its impact on the student’s creativity and composition ability are investigated A mixed-methods approach is utilized by the current study in which quantitative and qualitative studies are systematically conducted and synthesized In total 27 fifth graders actively participated in the 16-week experimental teaching in New Taipei City Taiwan This research develops four series (imagination of miracle biological creation superpower time and space travel supernatural power) MSCL lesson (14 study sheets) for students to learn composition A single-group experimental teaching is conducted in which pretest and posttest are administered to investigate the changes in the students' creativity and writing ability during the experiment Meanwhile qualitative observation and interviews are implemented throughout the study Evidence reveals that the implementation of the self-developed creative teaching-MSCL throughout an academic semester is very impactful on the fifth grader’s composition and creativity Some findings are as follows: (1) the MSCL improves the students’ overall creativity The student’s fluency originality and flexibility are significantly enhanced in both Figural and Verbal tests of the Chinese TTCT The student’s responses on “Creative Teachers ” “Creative Students” and “Creative Campus” are significantly improved The students report that the teachers and their composition teaching become more creative and their fellow students become more creative than before The learning environment and ethos allow more freedom and become more facilitating for the students to show their creativity (2) In terms of composition creativity the MSCL improves the student’s fluency originality flexibility elaboration and sensitivity of composition (3) The length of the student’s composition is increased exponentially the degree of reliance on the sample essays is reduced and their imagery ability (both concrete and virtual imagery) is improved (4) In general the innovative MSCL approach is very impactful which can effectively improve students’ learning motivation creativity and composition ability
