In the aircraft operation phase of the global flight safety incidents operational damage is from the failure of aircraft systems or components and is directly related to flight safety The aircraft repairing and maintenance process is sophisticated and the procedures are highly professional and time-bound In particular as the utilization rate of aircraft increases the demand for the punctuality of airline arrivals results in work stress and workload for the repairmen and further causes an increase in the error rate of aircraft repairman It may lead to aviation safety-related problems The purpose of this study is to understand the relationships among workload work exhaustion negative affectivity work stress and burnout among aircraft repairman and to investigate the moderating effect of emotional intelligence on the linkages of workload work exhaustion negative affectivity to work stress A total of 324 valid questionnaires were collected with the effective sample rate of 83 7% The data collected are analyzed and tested by descriptive statistics reliability analysis confirmatory factor analysis structural equation modeling and examination of the causal relationship and moderation effects to verify the hypotheses proposed in this study The results from the structural equation modeling shows that (1) work load has a significant positive correlation with work exhaustion and negative affectivity; (2) work exhaustion and negative affectivity have a significant positive correlation with work stress; (3) work stress has a significant positive correlation with burnout; however (4) work load has no significant positive correlation with work stress; (5) emotional intelligence does not moderate the linkages of workload work exhaustion and negative affectivity to work stress; in addition the results shows that (6) negative affectivity has a significant positive correlation with work exhaustion
