Leader Humility and Team Creativity: Testing Mediating and Moderating Effects

Humility is generally highly considered as a desired virtue This study is set to study the effect of humility in the workplace and thus find out how why and when humility will positively affect job outcome This study based on behavioral contagion theory and propose two different paths that explain the effect of leader humility on team creativity Leader’s humility will transmit to members to develop team humility then enhance team’s knowledge sharing as well as positive energizing which will increase the overall team creativity The results are based on data from 118 teams from 5 branches in Malaysia The result indicates that leader humility is positively related to team humility While team humility is positively associated with team knowledge sharing and team positive energizing Our result also reconfirms that both team knowledge sharing and team positive energizing predict team creativity Furthermore we also found that team incremental belief will enhance the transmit effect of leader humility to team humility In addition supportive evidence was found for the serial mediated moderating effect of team incremental belief on the serial indirect effect of team humility and team creativity Theoretical contributions limitations and future research directions are discussed as well
