Abstract

The variation of surface runoff of the urban land readjustment area of 2 379 ha in the Hudi section of Dashu District Kaohsiung City were numerically investigated in this study The SCS-CN curve method (SCS model) and the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) were used to simulate the surface runoff before and after the development of the land readjustment area Both SCS and SWMM models could simulate the reduction of the peak of outflow of the readjustment area by replacing the main roads with permeable pavement The SCS model did not directly simulate the effect of reducing peak flow by replacing the main roads with permeable pavement if the CN value could be appropriately decreased(changed 85 into 76 7) and the concentration time(for 2 6 times) can be increased in the model the SCS model could also simulate the drainage peak flow The results by SWMM model showed that replacing the main roads with permeable pavement the peak of outflow from the readjustment area could be reduced by approximately 19% and 18% for the 10-year and 25-year rainfalls respectively The results by SCS model showed that the drainage peak flow in the readjustment area could be reduced by approximately 20% and 18% for the 10-year and 25-year rainfalls respectively
