The thesis design aims to develop a new set of toys to enhance children’s architectural experience The design process is conducted as an action research with participations from the children and teachers of NCKU kindergarden Each action cycle is consisted of a prototype toy set several recorded sessions of toy playing with selected child participants a video review session with teathers data analysis and reflections on the action In total 8 action cycles have been conducted with prototype toys ranging from small “unit toys” to large “space toys” As a result a set of “Spatial Building Toys” is proposed The toy set uses building materials and building structures to expand children's experience of materials and space Furthermore toys in the set are organized in stages (levels of difficulity) so that players may accumulate learning experience improve capability of spatial congnition and hopefully cultivate spatial creativity
