Abstract

SUMMARY The study focuses on the relation between Han Yu's official career and his poetry After the eighth year of Yuan-He period of Tang Dynasty (813) Han became a historical compiler and both the quantity of each form and the style of his poetry also got changed There are 413 in Han's poetry collection And there are 210 in early stage and 203 in late stage Most of his poetry form before this year is pre-tang form and there are 158 pre-tang ones accounting for nearly 75% Pre-tang ones are more than modern poetry in the early stage However there are only 62 pre-tang in the late stage just accounting for 30% Pre-tang ones are less than modern ones in the late stage At the same time the style of Han's poetry also became fresh in the late stage differing from the eccentric ones in the early stage To solve this problem the study is going to first view the difference between the early stage and late one of Han Yu's official career then learn his situation from his collection including his poetry and article and then research how his official career promotion and demotion influence the change of form and style of his poetry The study is going to attempt to solve this problem and improve the research on Han Yu's literature Key words: Han Yu Official Career Poetry Yuan-He Period INTRODUCTION Both the quantity of pre-tang form poetry modern poetry and the style of Han Yu’s poetry in his late stage is different from the early ones The difference is related to Han Yu’s promotion becoming a official historical compiler in the eighth year of Yuan-He period (813) This study is going to inspect and compare how the difference of Han Yu’s official career in the early and late stage influences his poetry By those methods this study could also explain how Han Yu’s official promotion and demotion influences his poetry acknowledge and improve what Han Yu’s contribution to the art of Chinese poetry is MATERIALS AND METHODS In the first and the second chapters the study is going to learn how the early stage and late one of Han Yu’s official career influence the quantity of each form of his poetry and style respectively by interpreting his collection including his poetry and article and historical documents in Tang Dynasty to recover Han Yu‘s life emotion and social situation The third chapter is going to explain why the quantity of his modern poetry after the eighth year of Yuan-He period increased more than the ones in his early stage By inspecting the difference between the early stage and the late one of his official career and his friendship the study could explain why his modern poetry increased in his late stage The last chapter compares the same and dissimilarity between the style of his poetry in his two demotion to the South China The chapter is going to interpret his poetry in these demotion periods including his emotion reaction the form and the style of his poetry RESULTS AND DISCUSSION By interpreting Han Yu’s poetry and article and historical documents in Tang Dynasty this study find that in the early stage he was frustrated with his official career of this time because he thought that his fame and his treatment could not be disproportionate and his first demotion to the South China and economic difficulties also made Han Yu frustrated Due to these events Han used pre-tang form poetry to record those events and express his depression therefore it made his poetry eccentric and the quantity of his pre-tang form in the early stage could be more than his modern ones However after the promotion in the eighth year of Yuan-He period (813) this event made Han pleased and influenced his poetry It improved Han’s official career and solved his economic difficulties and it had the quantity of his modern poetry in the late stage increase Besides Meng Jiou passed away in the ninth year(814) This event not only made Han Yu lose a bosom friend always communicating by pre-tang form poetry but also made the quantity of his pre-tang form poetry in the late stage decrease At the same time due to Han’s pleasure and his steady life in the late stage the style of his poetry also turned from the eccentric ones to fresh ones Even in his late stage he was relegated to the South China for the second time Han still kept this fresh style of poetry until he passed away in the fourth year of Chang-Qing period(824) CONCLUSION The study explains how Han Yu’s official career in the early and late stage influences the quantity of each form and the style of his poetry and why the quantity of modern ones increased and the style of his poetry turned to be fresh in the eighth year of Yuan-He period Whether Han Yu was promoted or relegated those both influenced the quantity of each form and the style of his poetry At the same time due to the promotion in this year Han improved his official career and solve his economic difficulties and communicated other senior officials in the court The event made his poetry change not only the quantity of each form but also the style of his poetry
