Study on the Relationship between Tourism and Daily Life Activity of Space Use in Tainan Historical Street Districts－A Case Study of Xinyi Street in Tainan City

Abstract

As more and more tourists come to Tainan to engage in cultural tourism sightseeing activities gradually spread to the living areas of Tainan residents causing various tourism impacts not only affecting daily life but also causing real estate prices to rise the emigration of local residents has also been compressed to the long-term local community organizations studios and businesses Xinyi Street as an alley for the daily life of local residents also contains the life culture accumulated from the Qing Dynasty to the present There are few commercial activities in Xinyi Street now community organizations in the neighborhood are active and good interactions with local residents are maintained The neighborhood is still a walkable and living atmosphere which is completely different from other neighborhoods in Tainan toward commercial development Therefore it has become the subject of research This research starts from the perspective of space use relationship and uses post occupancy evaluation as a framework It uses environmental behavior observation to analyze the life culture of the neighborhood and through interviews to understand the use of neighborhood space among the ethnic four groups From the research findings of this district this study puts forward two sustainable development suggestions for the historic district: 1 Important Historic Alley should maintain suitable historic-alleys scale not only to preserve the original historic district environment but also to allow the neighborhood to retain its original neighborhood daily life culture; 2 It is recommended that the community organizations in the neighborhood jointly formulate a convention to build a basic consensus on the development direction of the neighborhood and give play to mutual supervision and cooperation
