SUMMARY The Penghu immigration and their own living culture in Kaoshiung seems can be defined as the distinct character of “Sea Capital” it should be the main research subject in pursuit of the culture diversity too This thesis aims to research the living culture of two traditional temple founded by the Penghu immigration in Kaoshiung and devotes to analyze the interactive relationship of the social order collective identity within these two communities daily life by observation and interview survey According to the result of research the different identity to their native hometown between these two Penghu immigrating communities affect the discrepancy of the development strategy in the contemporary urban structure also promoted by government policies and regulations These two Penghu immigrating communities still have the great interactive connection with their traditional custom and cultural value even they can organize event efficiently by the native association and clan fellow Actually most Penghu immigrating communities have the great intention to communicate with different communities also can improve the cooperation of the various cultural development in Kaoshiung INTRODUCTION Kaoshiung government attends to characterize their city identity as the “sea capital” but the distinctive character is based on the spirit of city constructed by people The Penghu immigration of testify the development of progress in Kaoshiung their living culture and community awareness also emphasize the trait of this city Since the cultural diversity has become the universal value we should pay more attention on discussing the contemporary living culture of Penghu immigration This thesis primarily studies on the cultural valuation and strategic activity influenced by the urban development and propose the possibility to the future In order to accomplish the research work otherwise this thesis also gets a process started on investigation and interview to the different site of the Penghu immigrating community in Kaoshiung one is the “Kaoma” community in the suburbs and the other is “Kaonan” located at the downtown in the Sanmin district these two communities still have the distinct native cultural event in their own daily life MATERIAL AND METHODS This thesis primarily studies the overview of collective life in Penghu immigrating communities at Kaoshiung it also concerns the effect of urban development in contemporary society In order to clarify the cultural context of the Penghu immigration it’s necessary to collect the every kind of data including theses books and reference in various related disciplines and conduct an investigation by observation in these two communities directly at the same time The research work started at February 2018 and developed the friendly interactive relationship with the members of these two Penghu immigration communities It also adopts the ethnographic method to study the difference of society role position between friend and stranger By the actually participation and interactive interview of the respondent we can realize what is the motivation and purpose inherent in these Penghu immigrations in Kaoshiung RESULTS AND DISCUSSION This thesis adopts two concepts of the “Production of the Space” and “Dramaturgy” then conduct the research to these two communities from three different sections including the regulation of order、practice and affect representation Through the review of research finding the identity in varying degrees affects the strategic development even the urban policy also leads to the expansion of the difference 1 Kaoma community keeps a low profile to their identity of Penghu immigrating culture due to the operating pressure and complicated social condition they turn to emphasis the importance of religious event and reform the function of exited temple to public service even create exclusive event for the resident The Kaoma community reaches the consensus to characterize the identity of Kaoma living culture mixed the internal trait and external interference 2 Kaonan community emphasizes the cultural trait of Penghu and has the strongly connection with their homeland they conduct many events including not only religious ceremony but the social service to characterize their own distinct cultural identity Although Kaonan community immigrated many times but they always keep the well relationship with any community due to their friendly open mind they serve as the positive role of “good neighbor” to become the great potential node in the cultural interaction of the urban structure But Kaonan community still have to face the challenge to keep the obvious self-identifiability interacted with other communities 3 Both communities are apparently influenced by the native Penghu culture Their social network still can conduct the event efficiently and make the great effort of development This distinct cultural identity can offer the new possibility to the collective living culture of community CONCLUSION These two Penghu immigrating communities maintain close links to their own native culture including the living culture social network and community identity All of these distinct contents can effort great advantage to characterize the specifications of “sea capital” This is to say the traditional temple is not only the religious center of the community it also can create more possibilities to communicate different communities These immigrating communities however face many serious challenges of cultural homogenization and losing the connection with homeland it should be more proactive about understanding their living culture thus can make the proper decision to choose what they really want to be in their living culture
