The Effects of Horticultural Therapy on Work-Related Stress and Well-Being: The Case of National Cheng Kung University Hospital Staff

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of horticultural therapy on work stress and sense of well-being among members of the staff of a university hospital A quasi-experimental design is used with 24 participants in the experimental group and 23 participants in the control group The horticultural therapy class interventions lasted four weeks Pre-test post-test and follow-up tests were conducted with the Job Stress Reaction Inventory the Work Satisfaction Subscale and a general health questionnaire The collected data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA and a two-way mixed ANOVA The findings showed that initially there were no significant differences in the pre-test post-test and follow-up test results in terms of work stress job satisfaction and general health based on demographic items (gender age marital status educational level number of children job tenure service department interest in horticulture) Secondly there were no significant between-group differences in the pre-test post-test and follow-up test scores on work stress job satisfaction or general health and well-being
