SUMMARY In 2000 the Legislative Yuan passed the " Hospice Palliative Care Regulation Amendment " in its third reading allowing terminal patients to write a letter of intent to choose peaceful and palliative care This demonstrates respect for patient autonomy and maintenance of quality of life and reduces the waste of ineffective medical care Next the Legislative Yuan passed the “Patient Right to Autonomy Act” in 2015 which was officially implemented on January 6 2019 Returning the "right to refuse medical treatment" to patients giving patients the right to know to choose to end their lives etc also allows Taiwan to integrate with the international trend of guaranteeing patients' autonomy However there are still many problems regarding the implementation and application of the decision to refuse medical treatment in the Patient's Autonomous Rights Law This paper will discuss from the point of view of the refusal to protect the right to medical treatment and then find a solution refer to foreign legislation and finally put forward relevant suggestions
