Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to try another approach to analyze Guo songfen’s novels Instead of positioning Guo in the context of modernist literature in post-war Taiwan this paper analyzed Guo’s novels and his political concern within the framework of Realism I claimed that though Guo turned from left-wing movement what he attended in early 1970s to literary creation in 1980s Guo’s concern I called it “historical humanitarianism” has never changed Moreover it reflected in Jhinhun which is latest published posthumous work of Guo so far With the viewpoint of Realism presented by Raymond Williams the way people interacted with and faced realistic world or society I can describe the dialectical relationship between individual and historical misery generated in whether contemporary China or post-war Taiwan
