摘要

The welded end-slot buckling restrained brace (WES-BRB) has been developed in the Taiwan National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE). The steel frame equipped with the WES-BRB can offer a cost-effective solution to meet inter-story drift and earthquake resistant requirements for seismic steel buildings. According to the WES-BRB and connections design procedure, there are seven items of design check for a buckling-restrained braced frame (BRBF) design. In order to assist the engineer to design the WES-BRBs and connections, an innovative cloud service named Brace on Demand (BOD) has been constructed in NCREE. This paper introduces the development of the BOD. The BOD server provides the up-to-date and on-demand service for users to effectively and automatically find the complete design results of the WES-BRBs and connections meeting all seismic design requirements. Users are only required to enter the frame geometry and the BRB yield strength in the BOD browser. The BOD server can immediately compute and report the results including all the detailed dimensions of the WES-BRB, gusset and weld sizes. The design results, including structural calculations in.txt and.xls format, can be downloaded and conveniently incorporated into the construction documents. The BOD is a very time-saving and cost-effective tool for structural engineers engaging in the seismic design of buildings using WES-BRBs. In this study, the demand-to-capacity ratios (DCRs) of each design check are investigated by a diagonal configuration BRBF case study using BOD. The effectiveness of the proposed strategies for improving design to meet all design checks is verified.
