N2 - Due to the inherent characteristics of MPEG video decoder processing which involves bulk data transfers, a large portion of the energy used comes from memory accesses. In this paper, we propose a data-reuse scheme which recognizes the reusable data in frame buffers and a display RAM to avoid unnecessary memory accesses. Extensive experiments for eighteen video sequences exhibiting various image features show that the proposed approach on average reduces the frame buffer accesses by one half and the display RAM accesses by one quarter.
