N2 - In this paper, a low-cost technique to realize VLC is presented. Instead of using a large codeword table as most traditional methods did, we employed two smaller tables, symbol-address table and section-based table, to encode input symbols. Compared with those previous methods, our VLC implementation reduces about 29% to 47% memory size for MPEG-4 application, and thus needs lower hardware cost.
