A meso-scale liquid-fuel-film combustor with central-porous fuel injection

摘要

Liquid fuel combustion can provide high specific power and energy required for personal power systems. When the physical dimension of the combustor reduces below a critical value, conventional sprays are no longer viable as the mechanism for introducing fuel and specific heat recirculation mechanisms should be applied to help stabilize the flame and reduce the specific heat loss. In this paper we propose a novel concept for the miniaturization of a meso-scale cylindrical direct-injection liquid-fuel combustor wherein the fuel is injected through a central metal porous cone and forms a thin film that stores the thermal-chemical heat, optimizes vaporization rate, and inhibits quenching. This paper describes the concept of porous-core miniature combustor and presents the preliminary results of the temperature profiles, flame structure and CH∗ chemiluminescence images, as well as the flow analysis of the proposed meso-scale liquid combustor.
