A simulation study on excellently optimized viewing angle performance for OCB LCDs

摘要

An excellently optimized viewing angle performance for optically compensated bend (OCB) mode is achieved with the commercial simulation software, DIMOS2.0. Based on concepts of optical phase compensation, three steps for improving viewing angle characteristics are executed including light leakage of effectively non-crossed polarizers at oblique viewing directions compensated by a-plate; residual phase retardation of liquid crystals in dark state compensated by hybrid aligned discotic films; and light leakage at larger polar directions compensated by suitable thickness and optical axis of bi-axial TAC films. For D65 illumination, the optimized compensated cell possesses contrast ratio over 100 almost distributed all viewing angles. At on-axis viewing direction, contrast ratio is over 1000.
