A Study of Liquefaction Potential for a Liquefied Area

摘要

A newly reclaimed seashore land by hydraulic filling, which was located on the Chang-Hwa Coastal Industrial Park in central Taiwan, was selected to be the testing site for evaluating the liquefaction potential. During the Chi-Chi Earthquake (1999/09/21) this site resulted a series of liquefaction-related phenomena, such as sand boiling, and ground settlement. The Cone Penetration Test (CPT) was conducted in the situ as a measure of resistance on November 1999 and July 2000. In this paper, a study of the change of soil properties during this period was carried. In addition, a back-analysis procedure using the CPT data and earthquake information was presented to assess the probability of re-liquefaction for the liquefied area.
