Vibration suppression characteristics of an active magnetic suspension system are investigated in this paper. The vibration force compensation results from a linear oscillatory actuator (LOA) using feedback control from system measurements. The feedback terms are related to the relative suspension deflection, relative suspension velocity, absolute mass acceleration and absolute mass velocity. The former two terms are measured by an eddy current sensor while the latter two terms are measured by an accelerometer. By means of proper feedback from the measured signals to the actuator controller, the damping effect of the proposed active suspension can be accomplished for better performance with some parameter adjustments. The prototype system design and implementation described in this paper has more design flexibility to meet the required specifications as supported by experimental results.
