Compact size and ruggedness are two important factors in the selection of bandpass filters for mobile communication system applications. Dielectric ceramic bandpass filters not only offer a size advantage in the UHF range, they also have other characteristics that make them extremely attractive compared to other technologies. This article describes an inhomogeneous coupled-stripline dielectric ceramic bandpass filter, which comprises several stages of quarter-wavelength stripline resonators. The coupling between every two adjacent resonators is via an inhomogeneous dielectric part. Additional coupling capacitors are not used. The filter exhibits low dissipation and relatively good temperature stability due to its high Q dielectric material and low temperature coefficient of resonant frequency τ f. This article also discusses a theoretical analysis and practical design for inhomogeneous coupled-stripline bandpass filters.
