摘要

In electroosmotic flow, the application of an external electric field causes ions (or charged species) to move under the influence of convection, diffusion and electro-migration effects. This study simulates the ionic concentration distribution within the bulk solution as it flows through a turning channel. The total system potential is resolved into two components, namely the externally applied electrical potential and the electrical double layer (EDL) potential in order to investigate more precisely the behavior of the ions under the influence of each potential. The potential intensity of the EDL is determined by the concentration of the bulk solution. Specifically, a more dilute solution induces a weaker EDL potential. The present results reveal that the external electrical potential intensity (Ex) is stronger than that of the EDL when the bulk solution has a concentration of 10-7M and Ex is 0.4KV/cm (Re = 0.1). The numerical results indicate that under these conditions, the ionic concentration no longer conforms to a Boltzmann distribution, particularly in the turning region of the channel. Finally, an analysis of the velocity profile reveals that the fluid flow decelerates in the inner part of the turning region of the channel.
