Upper Bound Method, among the available theoretical methods for metal forming analysis, is usually adopted to predict the forming load. In upper bound method, since the kinematically admissible velocity field is fixed, the total deformation power can only be optimized with respect to parameters of the die geometry. In this paper, an Upper Bound Elemental Technique (UBET) is developed. It is based on the upper bound method and the plastic zone is divided into basic elements. The total deformation power is optimized by using the unknown velocities on the element boundaries as its pseudo-independent parameters, therefore, an actual velocity field is established and a lower value of the upper bound solution is obtained. The developed technique was applied to solve the problem of tube extrusion through the flat dies, the conical dies and curved dies.
