This research investigates the atomization performance of a micro-channel atomizer with acoustic excitation and its application in microencapsulation process. Alginate and CaCl 2 aqueous solutions are used as wall material and hardening median, respectively. Results show that, the flying distance of droplets, the concentration of CaCl 2 and the frequency of acoustic excitation are importance control parameters. The mono-size droplets are formed in the resonant frequency of acoustic excitation, and droplets with difference size distribution are produced in other frequencies. Results also show that, microcapsules of average 885 μm in diameter with standard deviation of 74 μm are produced by this process.
