Application of extensive QFD innovative procedure on railing design

摘要

This research focuses on the application of extensive QFD innovative procedure for safe railing design. Railings are often installed in building windows or balconies for security, child safety, accident prevention, etc. but when a fire accident occurs, a railing will seriously affect a safe escape. Without an emergency exit, people will become “caged men” and the timing of escape and rescue will be affected. Therefore, the importance of emergency exits design of railings cannot be over emphasized. In this study, the extensive QFD developed by Wu has been adopted for an innovative design procedure. The major procedure of QFD is to identify the customers’ needs for a product and then convert into appropriate technical characteristics. An innovative safety railing has been designed in this paper. The railings can be quickly disassembled into a rappelling escape ladder. Besides, the railings can also be extended as the platform waiting for rescue to avoid being hurt by smoke or fire.
