分子生物監測技術在有害藻類及水質監測管理的應用

摘要

Molecular biotechnology is widely used in water quality monitoring and management, including early-warning and monitoring of harmful cyanobacteria, biological treatment systems (activated sludge/ammonia oxidation process/optical-electronic industry wastewater treatment), biofilms, drinking water/water reclamation systems, groundwater bio-remediation, ecosystem biodiversity, fecal pollution source tracking and many others. Compared to traditional methods, molecular biotechnology, quantitative chain reaction (qPCR) in particular, can quickly and effectively quantify the numbers of targeted microorganisms and functional genes, providing a basis for assessing the potential of metabolite production and degradation. With an appropriate database, the methods and obtained results can be used to estimate the risk for cyanotoxin and odor compound production, to evaluate the treatment efficiency for water and wastewater treatment plants, and groundwater remediation, and to track the sources for fecal pollution. The bio-molecular methods are expected to be further used in many more different areas of environmental and ecological monitoring in the near future.
