The purpose of this work is to present an approach for reducing the peak acceleration of cam-follower systems with variable cam speed based on B-spline function synthesis. Design variables and constraints for selecting proper speed functions of cams are presented. The peak value of the acceleration is taken as the objective function, and the ALM optimization approach is applied to obtain the optimal design of the state of motion. An example is given.
