Collapses of granular column with time varying topography

摘要

We consider a one-sided collapse flow from the view point of a model with a deforming topography. This is done by treating the collapsing flow into two layers: a rapid surface flowing layer and a stagnant base. A time-varying interface, the deforming topography, separates the two layers. The evolution of the topography is described by a moving coordinate model, proposed by the present authors [Acta. Mech. 199, 71 (2008)]. A remarkable qualitative agreement between the simulation and the experiment is obtained. Nevertheless, quantitative comparison reveals that further investigations are still needed for the parameterization of the erosion/deposition rate and the friction laws.
