The case of aiding forced and free convective flows of cold water adjacent to an isothermal vertical plate is investigated. The nonsimilar equations are solved by using a suitable variable transformation and employing an implicit finite difference method. Numerical results for friction factor and Nusselt number are presented over a wide range of temperature, salinity and pressure condition. The present results may also be applied to the slow melting or freezing of a vertical ice slab. The anomalous cold water density behavior is found to produce large differences form the transport predictions arising from the conventional Boussinesq approximation.
