N2 - This investigation is an extension of an earlier study left bracket 10 right bracket on combustion of liquid fuel sprays in stagnation-point flow. Planar flames are stabilized in a diverging flow field produced when a uniform jet of polydispersed spray of liquid fuel in air impinges on a flat quartz plate. The study was motivated by the fact that in stagnation flow configuration, not only the flow field is better understood, but also the rate of stretch in the flame front can be systematically controlled. Results show that depending on the volatility of the fuel, as the concentration of methane is reduced, either the flame will extinguish or assume an unstable non-planar configuration.
