Cutaneous umbilical metastasis in a patient with gastric adenocarcinoma: Report of a case

Cutaneous metastasis of gastric cancer is an uncommon phenomenon, and even more when presented as umbilical involvement. We report a 35-year-old female, who had a firm nodular lesion over the umbilicus, with the symptom of intermittent epigastralgia for about one year. Scirrhous type of gastric carcinoma was diagnosed by gastroscopy, endoscopic ultrasonography, upper gastrointestinal barium study, and CT scan. Histologic confirmation was achieved in adequate gastric tissue sampled from mucosectomy. Meanwhile, the biopsy of the skin lesion revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma with the same character as that of the stomach. The patient finally expired due to multiple metastases (skin and peritoneum) nine months after the confirmation of the diagnosis.
