Design and implementation of an interactive knock table for smart home applications

摘要

This paper describes the design and implementation of a knock table which is able to detect the user's knock position and give the user proper response via the connected computer. Four sensors, located near the table corners, are used for recording the sonic waveforms generated by knocking on the table. A microprocessor extracts relevant characteristics from these waveforms including the amplitudes and the timings, which are then used for estimating the location of the knock using the time difference of arrivals (TDOA) method. The technique is useful for smart home applications.
