The design of a 2.4 GHz RF power amplifier (PA) module for ISM-band wireless communication is presented. The PA module features a 29.5 dBm 1-dB compression point, 28 dB gain, 35.75 dBm 3rd-order intercept point (OTP3) and 40 percent power-added efficiency (PAF). To investigate its performance in digital wireless communications, a modulated BPSK signal with 64K bits/sec data sequence was applied to the PA and the output signal analyzed by a HP 89410A vector signal analyzer. A simple and effective load-pull measurement setup and procedure was used to measure the large-signal parameters of the GaAs FETs for PA design.
