Design of a wireless physiological monitoring system by mesh ZigBee sensor network for hemodialysis

摘要

The number of patients needing dialysis increases rapidly in Taiwan. Monitoring physiological parameters during the hemodialysis period is important, but it required more and more manpower of medical care with the amount of patients. Automatic physiological monitoring for hemodialysis patients is required, but wireless monitoring is limited in broad ward and mobile beds. In this study, we developed a wireless monitoring system by mesh ZigBee sensor network to expand the coverage for long-term monitoring automatically and provide a useful user interface for nurses to manage the patient’s physiological parameters. We recruited 10 hemodialysis patients who have no history of any major health problems in cardiovascularity for testing. The results demonstrate that the proposed system can effectively expand the coverage for monitoring and the accuracy of measurement has been verified by a commercial simulator (within 10%). It has high potential to be a medical system to improve the caring quality of hemodialysis patients and saving the manpower.
