Differentiated order in the cockpit

摘要

The goal of this research is to find the appearance of the Chinese differentiated order regarding human relationships in the cockpit. It is well agreed by the community of civil aviation that the interaction between crewmembers in the cockpit does influence the performance and consequently the safety. From the results of a large scale survey granted by the Aviation Safety Council about the performance of the Crew Resources Management training in Taiwan, China, the human relation and its interaction between the crewmembers were studied. To the Chinese people, the guanxi, i.e., human relation, is thought to be a valuable resource. To make the best use of it, human relations have to be categorized carefully and precisely. Based on the traditional Chinese differentiated order with self at the center describing the structure of the human relationship, a new four-level differentiated order model was proposed. From the statistical results, the basic structure of kin/acquaintance/fellow/ alien in the minds of the local captains is shown significantly different comparing to the international averages. It reveals the category showing how Chinese people manage the human resources. Together with the basic structure, a dynamic vernier is also used by the Chinese to face variously different situations regarding human relations and to interact with people. It is the family/outsider vernier. It is expected that the proposed model can be used to help understand the dynamics of the Chinese guanxi in the cockpit and promote the global aviation safety.
