title = "Dynamic analysis of a self-excited series connected synchronous generator feeding an induction motor load",
abstract = "This paper presents dynamic performance of a three-phase self-excited series connected synchronous generator (SESCSG) supplying an induction motor load. The SESCSG has its stator windings and the rotor windings connected in series with different phase sequence. The output frequency of this machine is independent of the connected load provided that the rotor speed is kept constant. The three-phase induction machine model is employed to derive the dynamic equations of the SESCSG feeding an induction motor. Experimental results obtained from a laboratory 1.1 kW induction machine driven by a DC motor and a 300 W induction motor load are also performed to confirm the feasibility and effectiveness of the analyzed results. The eigenvalue method is also employed to examine system characteristics when the induction motor load is suddenly connected to the terminals of the studied SESCSG. It can be concluded from the experimental and simulated results that the SESCSG cannot effectively startup the induction motor and the generated voltage of the SESCSG collapses.",
