Effect of blend and MgO nanoparticle additive on the tribological performance of linseed based biodiesel

摘要

The increase in pollution and estimated amount of fossil fuel escalates the research for finding suitable substitutes to the diesel fuel. The vegetable oil are having better properties that makes them more feasible as an alternative to diesel fuel. This study focussed on the tribological characteristics of the Linseed based biodiesel. The effect of magnesium oxide nanoparticles as as additive to the biodiesel was also assessed and their results were compared with biodiesel and base oil diesel. The diesel fuel showed more coefficient of friction at all the applied conditions and also unsteady behaviour occurred. Among the blends of biodiesel, B10 showed better results in terms of coefficient of friction and wear of the surface. The addition of nanoparticles upto 0.5% showed better results for all the blends. But after increasing its concentration, the B30 blend showed more coefficient of friction and wear of the parts.
