摘要

This study examines the performance of a vortex flow meter in a swirling pipe flow. Two swirling flow conditions were achieved by two swirlers made of flat-plate vanes 10° and 20° inclined with respect to the incoming flow, respectively. The degradation of the signal quality due to the swirling effect can be described from two aspects. First, the low frequency components in the vortex shedding signals measured are substantially present, especially at high Reynolds numbers. Second, the unsteadiness associated with the vortex shedding periods varying with time is noted to be so significant in the case with the presence of the 10° swirler that no vortex shedding frequency can be identified from the frequency spectrum. As far as the vortex shedding frequency is concerned, the frequency measured in the case with the presence of the 20° swirler is noted to be lower than that without a swirler. The discrepancy in the vortex shedding frequencies caused by swirling at the same Reynolds number is more than 15%.
