Effect of heat treatment on setting behavior and compressive strength of tetracalcium phosphate cement

摘要

A heat treatment method for prolonging the working/setting time, while maintaining the strength of the tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) cement, was presented. The TTCP powder used for the study was fabricated form the reaction of dicalcium pyrophosphate (Ca2P2O7) and calcium carbonate. A calcium phosphate cement (CPC) paste was formed by mixing the TTCP powder with a diammonium hydrogenphosphate ((NH4) 2HPO4) hardening solution. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) results indicate that heat treatment of the TTCP powder at higher temperatures enhanced the initial formation of apatite, but slowed down the further formation of apatite during the immersion of CPC in Hanks' solution.
