摘要

Titanium and titanium alloys have become one of the most attractive implant materials due to their light weight, high corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and mechanical properties. Although Ti 6Al 4V ELI is widely used as an orthopedic implant material due to its excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, studies have shown that the release of aluminum and particularly vanadium ions from the alloy might cause such long term health problems as peripheral neuropathy, osteomalacia, and alzheimer diseases. Appropriate amounts of metals were melted in a U-shaped copper heart with a tungsten electrode. The ingots were re-melted three times to improve chemical homogeneity of the alloy. The much higher strength and hardness levels observed in sample A of the present study is probably due to a stronger solution strengthening/hardening effect contributed by the higher content of β phase in the sample.
