The efficiency of the powertrain is important for the electric vehicle. The conventional powertrain system has a centralized power source, which exists disadvantages on efficiency and operating range. This study proposes a novel dual-motor drive (DMD) system, which endows the speed-torque range with a flexible range and efficiency. The field oriented control and the principle of maximum torque per ampere are applied to build the motor drive system for a permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motor and the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor. The total current weighting between the two electric motors can be adjusted by the proposed regulation algorithm. It can be achieved the efficient higher operation by DMD hybrid powertrain system with the proposed regulation algorithm.
