In this study, iridium-palladium oxide has been deposited on titanium substrate. The technique involved successful codeposition of iridium and palladium by a cyclic voltammetric method followed by a suitable heat treatment through which both iridium oxide and palladium oxide were formed. The electrodeposited iridium-palladium oxide shows different behaviour in acid and basic solutions in polarization and cyclic voltammetric measurements. The situation in acidic solution is more complicated. The large visible difference is mainly ascribed to palladium. High electrocatalytic activity and low overvoltage of the oxygen evolution reaction are the pronounced characteristics of iridium oxide. This iridium-palladium oxide film also has a high fraction of active sites for the oxygen evolution reaction, giving a Tafel slope of 0.48 in 1 N H2SO4. The results of the multicyclic voltammetric investigations indicated that the oxygen evolution reaction during electrolysis occurred beyond about 1 V and the iridium-palladium oxide is stable in the potential range below 2.3 V(SCE).
