Enhancing diagnosis of gingivitis by quantifying gingival tissue functional parameters with diffuse reflectance spectroscopy

摘要

Early gingivitis is difficult to assess by visual observation. We found that the tissue chromophore values derived from our diffuse reflectance spectroscopy system had a greater advantage over the conventional 2-wavelength reflectance ratio method. In this research, the reflectance and absorption spectra were acquired from 28 healthy sites and 11 gingivitisinfected sites in 8 volunteer patients with illumination of the tungsten halogen lamps. Our results demonstrated that the method of chromophore values outperformed the 2-wavelength reflectance ratio method and gave a sensitivity of 64% and a specificity of 86%.
