Exploring the quality of chronic kidney disease websites

The Internet has become an important source of medical information for the general population. However, information available over the Internet may not be accurate or reliable. The purpose of this study was to explore and evaluate the qualities of current chronic kidney disease-related websites due to the prevalence of this disease, the popularity of the Internet, and the perceived incompleteness of Chinese language websites providing related information. This research, a descriptive study, evaluated a total of fifty websites. Evaluations included both content and technical aspects. Findings revealed that four of fifty websites reviewed were satisfactorily comprehensive and are recommended for consideration in the future construction of kidney care websites.
