Grading of risk for hazardous debris-flow zones

摘要

This paper first discussed the identification and zoning methods for debris-flow hazardous ravines briefly, then presented a simple and useful method to delimit the hazard zones of various risk degrees. The presented method is derived from theoretical calculation and experimental results. The hazardous zone is graded into two sub-zones according to its deposit thickness. 'Red Zone' indicates that the deposit thickness is expected higher than 1.5m (approximately half the height of a one-story house) for a recurrence period of 50 years and 'Yellow Zone' covers the area between Red Zone and the boundary of debris deposit.
