摘要

Hydride formation was studied in pure titanium under cathodic polarization in artificial sea water. The existence of a hydride in a pure titanium matrix was identified by X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Experimental results indicated that cathodic polarization of pure titanium in artificial sea water at temperatures even below 75 degree C would induce hydride precipitation. The phase formed was identified as the face-centered cubic gamma hydride.
