Identification of Factor Significance in a Water Cooling Pipe Section using ANSYS CFD through a Full Factorial Design of Experiment

Solar cooling systems have potential in the Philippines due to its favorable solar renewable resource based on the data gathered by reputable organizations. Involved in solar cooling systems are water cooling systems for the solar photovoltaic cell panels and collectors which consists of networks of pipes. This study simulated a water cooling system pipe section using ANSYS computational fluid dynamics (CFD) by manipulating the cooling water mass inlet flow rate and the pipe wall temperature to identify their significance in influencing the outlet water temperature. Using a 2k full factorial approach for the design of experiment, the data were analyzed in JMP Pro 11 through an analysis of variance. It was identified that only the cooling water mass inlet flow rate is the only significant factor in the study, and its influence to the outlet water temperature was identified through the equation generated using the parameter estimates function in JMP Pro 11.
