摘要

The effect of suspended wastes on the optimal design of the activated sludge system is investigated using a parallel biochemical oxidation kinetic model, which takes into account the lower metabolic rate and masking effect of suspended wastes. A simplex pattern search technique is used to determine the optimal design. The results show that the masking effect coefficient, the influent suspended wastes concentration, and the influent soluble substrate concentration are three important parameters which affect the optimal design of secondary wastewater treatment systems. Based on the models used in this work, the suspended wastes which cause the masking effect in the aeration chamber are undesirable.
